Snowed In Comedy Tour

When: Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Vogue Theatre, 918 Granville St., Vancouver

Tickets: $45 (plus fees) at admintone.com

B.C. comedians Dan Quinn and Erica Sigurdson, as well as Albertans Pete Zedlacher and Paul Myrehaug, perform as part of the 15th Snowed In Comedy Tour. The tour makes 70 stops coast-to-coast, braving Canadian winter conditions to bring laughs to the people. Quinn is the originator of the tour, Sigurdson is a regular on CBC’s The Debaters, Myrehaug is the winner of the Great Canadian Laugh Off, and Zedlacher has been nominated six times for Canadian Comedian of the Year at the Canadian Comedy Awards.

Hong Kong Exile performs Heaven FM as part of Hold On Let Go from Jan. 23-27 at the Russian Hall. sun

Hold On Let Go

When: Jan. 23-27, and Jan. 30-Feb. 2

Where: Russian Hall, 600 Campbell Ave., Vancouver

Tickets: Passes from $25 to $45 at holdonletgo.ca

Formerly known as PushOFF, Hold On Let Go is a showcase of experimental works. This year, the 14-year-old event is divided into two programs. The first features new works by Hong Kong Exile, Mardon and Mitsuhashi, Amy Amantea, Lara Kramer, and Adrienne Wong. Part Two, on Jan. 30-Feb. 2, is devoted to a double bill of new works by Company 605 and Theatre Replacement, the presenters of the festival. In addition, Hold On Let Go will host artist talks, mixers, and a town hall (Jan. 27 at 12 p.m.).

The Heat

Companies from Manila, Atlanta, L.A., the U.K., and Toronto converge for the inaugural edition of The Heat, an improv comedy showcase. Presented by The Improv Centre, the event features performers from TIC’s ensemble working alongside the visitors in short-form games, an all-play, and a finale. The visiting teams will also demonstrate their styles of improv on their own.

Check out glow-in-the-dark mineral displays and fluorescent rocks as part of the free family event Discovery Day on Jan. 21 at Vancouver Convention Centre East. sun

Discovery Day

Discovery Day is a free, family-friendly, interactive earth science activity day with hands-on activities for all ages. Activities include panning for gold, flying drones, touching rocks, and experiencing VR milieus. Geologists and mascots Buddy the Miner and Better the Miner will be on-site. Face-painting, balloon-twisting, and popcorn and cotton candy will also be available.

International Guitar Night

When: Jan. 25

Where: Massey Theatre, 735 8th Ave., New Westminster

Now in its 24th year, the touring guitar festival presents four musicians solo and performing together. The guitar players include acoustic rock interpreter Luca Stricagnoli (Italy); Thu Le (Vietnam); Marco Pereira (Brazil); and Minnie Marks (Australia). Marks is a blues slide guitar player who is making her North American debut as part of this tour.
