Traffic Alert: Delays expected on the Lions Gate Bridge tonight

Drivers travelling between Vancouver and the North Shore should expect delays tonight on the Lions Gate Bridge, as lane closures for upgrades begin Friday evening.

B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation says the paving work means only one lane will be open to single-lane-alternating traffic from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.

The same goes for Saturday night, however the Monday lanes will open at 5:30 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. The closure times will be the same the following weekend.

At least one sidewalk will remain open at all times during construction to provide a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, according to the ministry.

The ministry says the scheduled paving of the north approach viaduct is part of regular road maintenance to keep the bridge safe and in good working order.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and to consider using the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing or public transit as alternatives.
