Mounties in Castlegar are investigating an early morning arson attack Tuesday.
RCMP say that at about 1 a.m. they received a call from a resident in the 2900-block of 5th Avenue, who saw fire coming from his neighbour’s property. The neighbour called emergency services and tried to put out the flames.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire, and while doing so they found what are believed to be Molotov cocktails.
Two occupants of the home, a man and his 10-year-old son, escaped the fire unharmed, according to the RCMP.
The Castlegar Fire Department and the Mounties are investigating. They have confirmed the fire was a result of someone throwing incendiary devices onto the property.
Police say the homeowner and his son were alerted to the fire by smoke in the house and their neighbours outside extinguishing the flames. As a result, there were no injuries and damage to the house and surrounding property is minimal.
The RCMP is asking anyone with information to contact the Castlegar Mounties at 250-365-7721.
